Checked with Gregg Wescott at Marshall Insurance Company in Lancaster to get insurance started on the Unimog. Test drove it at George Bull's. We were both late (as per normal), but both the same amount late, so it worked out well. We took it for a drive along NH route 25, thence down a paved side road. I drove it into a ditch to let a fellow by, then back on the road with no problems. Turned it around at an intersection about a mile down the road. Was quite happy with the turning radius! Tried a "panic stop", it did very well with a slight pull to the left. On the return drive shifted up and down through 4th, 5th and 6th gears several times. It worked very well, looks like the 5th gear syncros are fine. I had read in the e-mail groups and a web site to look for worn 5th gear syncros as due to the gearing you shift through 5th a lot, and between 5th and 6th a lot on the road. All seemed well, so I paid George for it.
