| You may have heard of, or seen a movie on the Monuments of Mars. Supposedly there's a face at Sedonia on Mars carved
by... well, who knows? Perhaps the monument sculptors stopped by New Hampshire in their travels. |
New Hampshire is loaded with natural profiles and faces.
The extra-terrestrial sculptors perhaps went by Massachusetted on the way as you can see below. |
| You can see this Indian Head if you get off I-93 at the south end of Franconia Notch, the Lincoln
exit. Proceed north on Route 3 for a while up a hill until you come to the Indian Head Resort. You can pull off
the road there and look to the left. |

On the left is a picture of The Old Man of the Valley.
The Old Man of the Valley is on NH Route 2 near the Maine Border. It is east of Gorham and Shelburne, NH. Look for this sign on the south side of
the road.

The masons who worked on Interstate 93 and the Parkway through
Franconia Notch were real craftsmen. They went above and beyond the call of duty when they built the abutments
for the bridge at the exit for route 18 to Franconia
and Sugar Hill. You will find this rendering of the Old Man of the Mountain at the north west face of the bridge.
Please DON'T stop on the highway to get a look at it! This is a very scenic area and other drivers may be taking
in the scenery and drift to the side, destroying your vehicle and injuring and/or killing you!
The best look you can get of it is in the following pictures anyway! If you must stop to see it in person, please
exit the freeway and find a safe place to park.
There is a large parking area a short distance west on Route 18.

The photo on the right is courtesy of renouned mountaineer, Glenn Houle. Glenn has hiked all the 4000 footers in
New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. He conquered the New Hampshire ones in both winter and summer and is working
on the rest of the New England ones in the winter having topped them in the summer.
Glenn has been to the top of New Hampshire's 100 and 200 highest peaks, and all of the New England 100 highest.
The Old Man of the Mountain has a companion, probably known as the "Old Woman of the Mountain", which
is visible from part way up the Greenleaf Trail. The beginning of this trail can be found at the Cannon
Mountain Exit in Franconia Notch. |

| You can see the Old Man of the Mountain on the side of a cow if you stay at the White
Wings Bed & Breakfast in Sugar Hill, NH. This remarkable image of the Old Man grew there naturally. The
cow was headed for the slaughterhouse when it was rescued by the owner of the White
Wings Bed & Breakfast. |

northeast side.
